San Diego - Day 9 - February 20, 2015

Just a quiet day here in PB. We usually sleep in until 8:30ish then have a leisurely breakfast before beginning our adventures.  I walked to the Post Office to mail some birthday cards and came upon a "situation."  Turquoise and Cass, one block from us, was blocked off with loads of police presence and two helicopters flying overhead. I changed directions walking to my destination - the PO and came back via main road. I didn't want to come across anyone if they were looking for someone. In the one store a woman said that a man was on Dawes Street brandishing a gun(later found to be a paint gun), a knife and acting erratically. They said he was on drugs and threatening suicide. He ended up being taken in to the mental hospital for observation.  Being a warm weather climate for the homeless people and with us taking public transportation most everywhere, we do happen to run into more "characters" then we would most anywhere.  Typically they are harmless and a part of us is most empathetic but nonetheless we keep on our toes just in case.  After all we are in a big city and "stuff" happens.  Not that it's dangerous, particularly where we stay; in fact San Diego is a very friendly city.  We've had many conversations with total strangers.  Ron was at the bar ordering our beers when he and a Pfizer official got into a conversation.  I think he was trying to find a job for Chris .. and no he didn't know Earle.  And by the way ... I was able to verify the "situation" story later on the news which surprised me because the news today is dominated with the Chargers possible move to Carson California.  Three cheers for the Pegula's for keeping the Bills in Buffalo.

Afterwards we went down to the beach.  It was overcast, and a little breezy but we certainly are not complaining. It was nice having the entire beach to ourselves.  Anything over 60 and not snowing sounds good to us. Spent the rest of the afternoon reading and then came home and texted the kids.  We believe we have a place we'd like to rent with Eric and Colleen at Pacific Beach during the week of Chris's wedding.  Afterwards we showered before going to dinner at Single Fin Surf and Grill for some fish tacos in honor of the Lenten season and a few beers (not sure what they were in honor of). We walked home we had some ice cream at Cold Stone.  Everything as per usual with Ron was a BOGO.  We are probably averaging 5 miles a day with our walks and/or exercising.

Enjoying a cold one

Love the fish and shrimp tacos!

Cold Stone Ice Cream for dessert - that's why we had to walk home.
