San Diego - Day 1 - February 12, 2015

Slept in this morning because we didn't get to bed until around Midnight - really 3 am eastern time.  Woke up hungry since the planes don't feed you anymore although we had brought some protein bars and other munchies to stave off starvation. So we headed out to Albertson's to do some shopping. Since we flew and aren't renting a car we are lucky that the grocery store is only across the street. We do have to make sure that we don't buy more than we can carry.

Yes, he actually went shopping with me!

After unpacking the groceries it was time to head off to the beach. We are closest to Tourmaline Surf Beach so we walked there and then continued down to the Crystal Pier and beyond.

We didn't win the Powerball Lottery so I guess we"ll have to wait to buy this house.  :)

I could watch the surfers for hours.

It was windy today so a great day to fly kites.

All in all I think we walked about 4 miles. It felt so good to be able to be out and walking without slipping on the ice or wearing heavy coats.

They do realize how lucky they are in San Diego to have the weather that they have!

On the way back we stopped at one of our favorite spots just by the pier - 710 and had wings and a beer.  I am not a big beer drinker but there is something about having a cold brew on an 85 degree day in February.

We continued our walk and were surprised to see that one of the mainstays along the beach was gone. We had lunch at the Green Flash last year which had been there for over 30 years - in fact the waitress even gave us a print of the restaurant - it has since been sold and is now Baja Beach Cafe. We'll have to see how it is at a later date.

Got home and I took a nap which I almost never do - I'll chalk it up to jetlag but I think it was the afternoon beer. Stayed in for dinner and had a nice taco salad. Early to bed - even with the nap - as we are still adjusting to the time difference.

Great dinner
